Last year at the Maintworld Conference in Helsinki, a cameraman snapped a pic while Joel Leonard was polling the audience about who was going to retire in the next 5 and 10 years. Over 80% were or entering retirement age. Considering the amount of accrued knowledge, experience and wisdom walking out the door, and the lack of successsion development and formalized mentorship programs in the LEAN corporate environment we are truly in a Maintenance Crisis. However with the virtual simulation development efforts, Break Through Training, Occupyajob app and numerous skilled workforce campaigns underway, there is plenty of reason to be optimistic about the future.
